The Killing Files WINS the Book Noir Book of the Year Award 2017

Nudge Books, the acclaimed publishing magazine, has today announced that The Killing Files by Nikki Owen, has won their Book Noir Book of the Year Award for 2017.

In a competitive and highly talented shortlist, which included authors such as Peter May and Daniel Pembry, The Killing Files – the second book in the popular Dr Martinez series – was voted for by readers as being their outstanding thriller for 2017. Said Nikki on winning the award: ‘I’m thoroughly delighted to win. The Killing Files was in great shortlist company, and it means so much to me that the readers chose my novel to win. Thank you to everyone who voted.’

The award follows hot on the heels of recent wins for Nikki’s novels. In December, the USA Magazine, Audio File awarded Subject 375 its coveted ‘Earphones’ award for the audio book version of the novel, and both The Killing Files and Subject 375 appeared on ‘Top books of the Year’ reading lists for the popular Lovereading.com website and leading USA publishing magazine, The Strand.

The final instalment in the Dr Martinez thriller series comes out in the UK in June 2017. The paperback edition of Subject 375 comes out in the USA in May 2017. The Dr Martinez Thriller series is currently published in over ten languages around the word.

Spider is now Subject 375 & selected for the Kindle Christmas sale

[Transmission date: 05/12/15]

The Spider in the Corner of the Room has a new title: Subject 375.

s3 2Publishers Harper Collins/Mira said: “With hindsight, our feeling was that the original title was intriguing but too ambiguous for the genre – and that with the success of the genre and authors like Charles Cummings, Tony Parsons etc, we as the publishers wanted a simpler, cleaner approach to both titling and image. Equally, as there is such a strong sense of place, we wanted a cover that would reflect the setting and the tension.”

“Furthermore, by retitling and rejacketing, we’ve put the popular character, Dr Maria Martinez, at the heart of the book – she is such a strong protagonist, so getting her front and centre with book 1 will ensure people are hooked into her journey right from the word go.”

Subject 375 will be part of the prestigious Amazon Kindle Christmas sale, on offer for 99p, from 5th-23rd December, 2015.

lr logoLovereading.co.uk declares Spider a ‘powerful and penetrating read’

 [Transmission date: April 2015]

The book lover’s website, Lovereading.co.uk, has praised The Spider in the Corner of the Room. With the debut novel already receiving rave pre-publication reviews from readers and book bloggers, Love Readings Liz Robinson has said of Spider:

“A powerful, penetrating and intensely different read that seizes your attention from the very first page.

The author cleverly writes in the first person narrative in two different time frames, Maria has Asperger syndrome and we are held on the edge of a connection and understanding, yet allowed intimate access to her anxiety, fear and torment.

As Maria questions her memory, her thoughts, her grasp on the present and past, a creeping sense of foreboding and fear settles across the pages.

For much of the novel you are kept in the dark alongside Maria, which provokes and agitates your interest, suggestions are made then ripped away, suspicions are roused and then extinguished.

This fascinating premise works, it leaves you wanting more; just who can be trusted and what is the truth?”
